When Nina attended work events she was surprised when it came time for dessert…

There were only a couple of options, take it or leave it. One single flavor of cake or other dessert was chosen for everyone. This led to not only a waste of food, but a lot of unsatisfied sweet tooths. After working 14 years in the same field, Nina was inspired to make a change and started Top it Off Cupcakes. Beginning in November 2019, Nina’s business plan was to market to places where she knew the business, medical practices, pharmaceutical reps, and the like. She was not interested in catering weddings/formal events as this was not in her wheelhouse, however, with some encouragement from her father, Nina signed up to be a vendor at a bridal expo in January 2020.

She was overjoyed and excited with the responses. People were abuzz about the new idea that was so different from a traditional wedding cake, and her bookings were quickly filling up. Just when things were picking up for this brand-new business, COVID stopped many events in their tracks. During the pandemic, to stay relevant and keep Top it Off’s name out there, Nina switched her strategy and started making pre-made cupcakes. In the meantime, Nina handled each event that remained booked with gusto, and since events came back in full force, Top it Off has thrived. She has been busier than ever and has exciting ideas for the business going into the new year.

  • She has the most handsome one-eyed bulldog named, Henry.

  • When she’s not slinging icing, you can find her backpacking on the AT, CDT, or the Florida Trail.
